Prior to the Rugby stranglehold that Namilyango College has on Uganda, it was a boxing powerhouse. The sport was symbolized by the monumental Pyramid at the college.
Today however, the sport has been phased out and the pyramid turned into a reading area. Rugby has ably worn those big gloves left by boxing and Namilyango College continues to produces the biggest names in Uganda Rugby.
At any one time half of the Uganda national team players will be Namilyango College alumni.

Bishop Hanlon, the founding missionary, championed the need and quest for a satisfactory system of free discipline.
He emphasized that except during class hours, the students would be without supervision, as that would positively contribute to the formation of their character.
